Homes for Sale in West Lafayette, Ohio

West Lafayette is a small village in eastern Coshocton County with a real Main Street, its own school district, and neighbors who show up for each other. It’s a place I know well, and here’s what I tell people who are thinking about moving here.

LIVING IN WEST LAFAYETTE

What It’s Like to Live in West Lafayette

West Lafayette was laid out in 1850, and today it’s a village of about 2,400 people covering roughly a square mile. Downtown still has buildings like the 1911 storefront that houses Brothers Hardware, and the village hall, schools, churches, and parks are all a short drive or walk away.

It’s the kind of town where you run into people you know at the hardware store, and where the Chamber dinner feels more like a get-together than a networking event. You’re only a short drive from Coshocton for bigger shopping, and close to US-36 and I-77 if you work in Tuscarawas County.

Housing in West Lafayette

Inside the village, you’ll mostly find single-family homes on regular lots: older two-stories close to downtown, plus ranches and mid-century homes on the side streets. Homes in the village are generally on village utilities, and you’re close to the schools.

Outside the village, Lafayette Township and the surrounding countryside offer homes on more land, some with barns or outbuildings. Those homes are more likely to have a well and septic system, so plan your inspections around that.

Close to downtown

Older homes within walking distance of Main Street, the hardware store, and local events.

Village side streets

Ranches and mid-century homes, often a good fit for first-time buyers or anyone who wants one-floor living.

Country around the village

More space and privacy. Ask about well, septic, driveway access, and which district the address is in.

Schools and Getting Around

Schools

The village is served by Ridgewood Local Schools, with Ridgewood Elementary, Ridgewood Middle School, and Ridgewood High School all in West Lafayette. The district works with the West Lafayette Police Department on a school resource officer program.

Want to see what the district is doing? I wrote about a Ridgewood student AI project. Country homes near the village can fall in other districts, so confirm for each address.

Commute and distances

According to the village, West Lafayette is about 2 miles south of the US-36 and State Route 93 intersection and about 7 miles west of where US-36 meets I-77.

That puts Coshocton roughly 15 minutes west and New Philadelphia and Dover about 35–45 minutes northeast, depending on where you’re headed.
