Homes for Sale in Sugarcreek, Ohio
Sugarcreek is a small village on the western edge of Tuscarawas County, right at the doorway to Ohio’s Amish Country. If you want a quiet place with real character and some land around you, it’s worth a look.
LIVING IN SUGARCREEK
What It’s Like to Live in Sugarcreek
People call Sugarcreek “The Little Switzerland of Ohio,” and you see why as soon as you drive into town. Swiss-style storefronts line Main Street, and one of the world’s largest cuckoo clocks stands right in the middle of the village. Horse-drawn buggies share the road with cars here, because Sugarcreek sits right in Ohio’s Amish Country.
It’s a small place, with around 2,400 residents, so life moves at a slower pace. You can still get to Dover and New Philadelphia in about 20–25 minutes for bigger shopping, the hospital, or I-77.

Housing In and Around Sugarcreek
In the village itself, you’ll mostly find modest single-family homes, from older two-stories near Main Street to ranches on the side streets. Homes inside the village are usually on village water and sewer.
Outside town, in Sugar Creek Township and the surrounding countryside, it’s farmhouses, homes on a few acres, barns, and the occasional small farm. Homes with land don’t come up often around here, and they can draw interest from several directions, so it pays to be ready when the right one does.
In the village
Walk to Main Street, the clock, and local shops. A good fit if you want small-town life without much yard work.
Country properties
Acreage, outbuildings, and privacy. Expect a well and septic system and plan inspections for both.
Hobby farms and land
Ask about zoning, fencing, barn condition, and whether mineral rights transfer with the property.
Schools and Getting Around
Schools
The Sugarcreek area is served by Garaway Local Schools. The district is part of village life, and it even shows up at the Ohio Swiss Festival with events for the kids.
Country properties around Sugarcreek can fall in neighboring districts, so confirm the district for the exact address.
Commute and distances
State Route 39 is the main road. It runs east to Dover and I-77 in about 20–25 minutes, and west into Holmes County toward Walnut Creek and Berlin.
Canton is roughly 45 minutes to an hour away. Expect slower traffic on busy tourist weekends, and keep an eye out for buggies, especially after dark.

Buyer Tips for Sugarcreek

Good homes with land don’t come up often here. Have your pre-approval and down payment lined up before you start looking.
